Spotify for Artists: The Complete Claim Guide for Indian Musicians

Why Spotify for Artists Matters

Spotify for Artists (S4A) is your backstage pass to the world's largest music streaming platform. With it, you can customise your artist bio, select your profile photo, pin a song at the top of your profile, and — most importantly — pitch unreleased tracks to Spotify's editorial playlists before they go live.

For Indian independent artists, editorial playlist placement on Spotify India can mean tens of thousands of new listeners overnight. The pitch tool alone is worth the 15 minutes it takes to claim your profile.

What Spotify for Artists Gives You

  • Real-time streaming data — streams, listeners, saves, playlist adds
  • Audience demographics — age, gender, city-level listener data
  • Profile customisation — bio, artist pick (pinned song/album/playlist)
  • Playlist pitch tool — submit unreleased songs to editorial playlists up to 7 days before release
  • Spotify Canvas — looping 8-second videos behind your songs

How to Claim Your Spotify for Artists Profile

Prerequisites

You need at least one song live on Spotify. The song must be distributed through a digital distributor. Your artist name on Spotify must match what you intend to claim.

Step 1: Go to artists.spotify.com

Visit the Spotify for Artists website and click "Claim your profile." Sign in with your personal Spotify account or create a new one.

Step 2: Search for your artist name

Search for your artist name as it appears on Spotify. Select the correct profile from the list.

Step 3: Verify your identity

Spotify will ask you to verify through your distributor, your social media account, or by contacting your manager/label. For independent artists, the distributor verification is usually fastest.

Step 4: Wait for approval

Spotify typically approves claims within 3–5 business days. You'll receive an email confirmation.

What Spotify CANNOT Tell You

An important note: Spotify for Artists shows monthly listeners and streams, but the API only provides follower counts and popularity scores to third-party apps. This is why your monthly listener count must be manually tracked if you're using any management platform — including Metric Music, which records these during your monthly report cycle.

Maximising Spotify for Artists

Once claimed, update your bio (write it in first person), add a high-resolution press photo, and submit your next release to editorial playlists through the pitch tool. Even if you don't get an editorial placement, the pitch signals to Spotify's algorithm that you're an active, engaged artist.
